Give Unwanted Hair a May Date

Spring is many things to many people. In the Midwest, it may be the time to buy a new snowblower after the harsh winter beat up last year’s model. Here in Raleigh, we don’t deal with Nor’easters or 20 feet of snow, but everyone’s still happy when spring rolls around.

This spring why not make it not an unhappy time for your unwanted hair? Spring is a great time to come in to Skin & Cosmetic Solutions and start putting our lasers to work getting rid of your unwanted hair for good.

Or you can keep plucking and waxing…forever

Getting rid of unwanted hair is so Sisyphean, for you fans of Greek mythology. Sisyphus was punished by the gods for cheating death, so he had to roll a boulder up the mountain all day and then watch it roll back down at the end of the day, only to repeat the routine the next day…forever.

Getting rid of unwanted hair is like that. You shave, pluck, wax, or apply harsh depilatory creams to get rid of it. And then, like Sisyphus, a couple weeks later it comes right back and you do it all over again.

Lasers to the rescue

We match our laser wavelength to the melanin in your unwanted hair. We then rain down short pulses of laser energy onto your unwanted hair. The melanin in the hair shaft absorbs the light energy, which instantly converts to heat and travels down the hair shaft into the hair follicle where it is anchored. The heat damages or destroys the follicle, precluding future hair growth.

Spring is the time

There are a few reasons spring is a great time to start your laser hair removal at Skin & Cosmetic Solutions: contrast, prep, aftercare.

  • Contrast — The laser likes to have a significant difference in color contrast between the color of the hair and the color of the patient’s skin. This allows the most laser energy to be absorbed by the hair, without the skin absorbing it. The paler your skin, the better. And springtime skin is usually lighter than late August skin. Also, sun exposure lightens hair color. In May we haven’t had much sun yet, so it’s a great time to have laser hair removal.
  • Prep — Before a laser hair removal session at Skin & Cosmetic Solutions, patients need to stop plucking and waxing for at least four weeks. This ensures the hairs will be actively anchored in the hair follicle, giving the laser energy the chance to get down and damage the follicle. It’s easier to leave your hair alone during the winter and spring before swimsuit season. You can still shave, just not pull out the hairs.
  • Aftercare — Your skin is sensitive to UV rays after your laser hair removal treatment. So, you need to be diligent about protecting it with clothing or 30 SPF sunscreen. When you’re not hitting the beach all the time, this is obviously easier to do.
