Winter is Time to Ditch the Spiders
- Posted on: Jan 15 2019
Compared to those poor souls in North Dakota or Maine, we don’t really have much of a winter down here in Raleigh. Still, we usually put away the sundresses, shorts, and swimsuits for a few months.
That’s why now is the perfect time to stop in at Skin & Cosmetic Solutions and have us get rid of those ugly clusters of red, purple, and blue squiggly lines coursing about on your legs.
Spider veins. As we get older over 80 percent of women have them, and exactly over 80 percent of those same women hate them!
So, why not let us use a quick little sclerotherapy session to get rid of your spider veins? That way when you’re ready for the sundress, your legs will be ready, too.
What causes spider veins?
Veins are the highways for the blood to return to the heart. And sometimes they have a real fight with gravity. This is especially true in the legs, where the blood needs to go directly up the leg. As we age, the strength of the support tissues and even of the veins themselves can diminish. This can cause the blood to back up and pool in spots. This shows itself in spider and varicose veins. Because spider veins are just below the surface of the skin they are very visible.
How does Dr. Puente get rid of them?
Sclerotherapy is nothing new. It was first used in the 1930s to make unwanted veins close up and go away. Dr. Puente finds that on the legs sclerotherapy is the best treatment for spider veins. On the facial spider veins, he prefers to use a laser.
In sclerotherapy, Dr. Puente injects a special saline solution directly into the vein in question. This solution irritates the vein and causes the walls to shrink up and the vein to close off. Over the next two to three months, the body gradually absorbs the unused vein, making it disappear. Any blood that ran through the vein is routed to an adjacent vein.
What happens afterward?
After your treatment, we put you in compression stockings that you’ll wear for two weeks during your waking hours. This compression improves your results so most veins need only one injection to disappear.
Now is the time to bid farewell to your spider veins. Call us at Skin & Cosmetic Solutions, (919) 876-9576, to make your appointment.
