Aesthetic Plastic Surgery is on the rise
- Posted on: Jun 20 2017
Men and women alike are seeking out trained professionals that can help them look and feel their best with a range of different procedures without the downtime needed for more invasive surgeries. According to the 2016 report from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the number of non-invasive surgeries continues to rise from 2015 to 2016 by 7 percent. These surgeries can include injectables, face peels and laser hair removal.
Breaking down the numbers
Injectables continue to be a popular way for men and women to roll back the clock. The report cited a 10 percent increase in injectables such as Botox®, Dysport® and Juvederm® from 2015 to 2016. Procedures like Botox, a neurotoxin, can relax the look of wrinkles by targeting the muscles underneath the skin, while also preventing new lines from appearing. The popularity of this procedure alone led to an 8 percent increase year-over-year. Other injectables aim to return volume to the lips and cheeks with the use of hyaluronic acid. These were the No.2 most popular nonsurgical procedure for the year.
Many of these procedures last from three to six months. For regularly scheduled treatments, facials continue to be popular.
Peels rise in popularity
There are other non-invasive steps patients can take to maintain a youthful appearance. Chemical peels, which work to remove dead skin cells and boost the production of collagen, are one of the top non-invasive procedures, with over 616,000 performed in the past year. Maintaining a monthly session for a chemical peel can ensure that there is no buildup of dead skin cells, which can clog pores and lead to breakouts.
