Keep your skin clear and fresh - even after you sweat!
It's summer, which means you're likely working up a sweat whether you mean to or not. If you exercise regularly, you're even more accustomed to the way your skin feels drenched in sweat.
Some call it a post-workout glow, citing the wonderful things that exercise can do for your skin, but others feel anything but. In fact, all that sweat can clog your pores and cause you to break out. Here are a few tips to help you keep your complexion fresh and clear:
With sweat and dirt already threatening to clog your pores, who needs the added mess of melted makeup? Leave your mascara and foundation at home - the gym is one place you'll want to keep your complexion absolutely naked to make sure you aren't filling your pores with breakout-causing bacteria.
Keep your equipment and hands clean
You'll also need to think about what you use to wipe sweat away while you're working out. Your hands? A towel? These can be breeding grounds for bacteria that will certainly irritate your skin.
Before you start working out, make sure you wipe down any equipment you use, since those germs will get on your hands. Bustle also recommends bringing your own hand sanitizer to use as you work out. However, it's best to avoid touching your face, and instead bring your own clean towel to use.
Shower immediately after
Lingering too long in your sweaty clothes increases your chances of breaking out all over your body, David E. Bank, a dermatologist in Mount Kisco, New York, told Women's Health.
"If sweat builds up on your skin, it will clog your pores and not allow your skin to breathe," he explained.
So, when you're done working out, hop in the shower and give your skin a gentle wash. If you don't have the time, make sure you bring a change of clothes and wipes to clean areas where sweat builds up and breakouts are likely.
