4 ways you can harm your skin this summer

For the most part, summer is a relaxing season full of lazy beach days, BBQ hang outs and weekend getaways. For our skin, however, it's a much different story. All these fun activities can put our skin through the ringer. Here are just some ways this happens and how you can avoid the consequences:

Forgetting your sunscreen
Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays should be your top priority this summer. Whatever outdoor activity you're partaking in, cover any exposed skin in an SPF 30 lotion before you head out, giving your skin enough time to absorb the sunscreen. Sunburns aren't just unsightly, leading to spots, lines and wrinkles later in life. They can also heighten your risk of developing skin cancer.

Getting dehydrated
A long day outside without water will leave you (and your skin) feeling parched. Dehydration is not only a serious health risk in the summer, but it can make your skin feel dry or cause acne. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water all day long!

Avoiding a thorough cleanse
Whether it's from wearing dirty sunglasses or forgetting to wash up after a dip in the pool, summer presents a lot of opportunities for bacteria and harmful chemicals to build up on your skin and cause breakouts or dryness. Be sure to clean anything that comes in contact with you, or take a shower after you swim.

Waxing and shaving too often
Most of us want baby smooth skin for bathing suit season, but too much hair removal can seriously irritate your skin. It's tempting to shave or wax as frequently as possible, but your skin needs time to recover.

Luckily, we offer a range of products and services that can help you rejuvenate your skin, such as a refreshing exfoliating peel. To schedule an appointment, visit Skin & Cosmetic Solutions today!
