Fraxel is a laser treatment that targets thousands of microscopic areas of skin using pinpoint laser beams that penetrate beneath the skin’s surface to eliminate old, damaged skin cells. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process, which replaces damaged skin with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.
Fraxel treatment works safely and effectively on delicate skin areas like the neck, chest, hands and face. Patients experience two levels of results: immediate and progressive. Immediately after the initial healing process, the skin’s surface feels softer, looks brighter and reveals a more even tone. Progressive results occur over the next three to six months as the skin’s deeper layers continue to heal.
The Fraxel laser is FDA approved to treat the following areas:
- wrinkles around the eye
- age and sun spots
- brown spots/pregnancy mask
- acne scars and surgical scars
- skin resurfacing
Everyone’s skin is different, but clinical studies suggest that most people experience maximum results in just three to five Fraxel sessions. These sessions are usually spaced two to six weeks apart, and Skin & Cosmetic Solutions applies a topical anesthesia one hour prior to your scheduled appointment. Cold air is also used on the treatment area during the procedure to minimize discomfort.
Most patients experience some degree of redness and swelling following treatment. The intensity and duration depends on how aggressive the treatment was and the patient’s particular healing characteristics. Other temporary side effects may include minor itching, dry skin, peeling, flaking and a bronzed-skin appearance.
A 30-minute consultation with Dr. Puente is required prior to treatment to review the procedure and necessary preparations.
